Counselling Practicum Student

I am a counselling practicum student completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, working under the supervision of Rachel Weinstein, MA, RCC, here at Kelly Adler & Associates in New Westminster. I have completed Level II training in Lifespan Integration and am trained in Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy.

Before this, I spent nearly twenty years in mental health research, much of it sitting with people through clinical assessments at some of the hardest points in their lives, and training others to do the same. What struck me was how much people needed help making sense of what had happened to them, not just someone to assess it. I know this from my own life as well, and it is what drew me into counselling.

People come to counselling for all kinds of reasons: anxiety, grief, a relationship that keeps going sideways, or a sense that something is off and has been for a while. You do not need a single, obvious event. I am especially interested in trauma and attachment, and in the long shadow that hard experiences can leave behind.

I work at your pace. We go only as far as feels right on a given day, with curiosity rather than pressure. You do not have to tell me everything for this to help. If we come to something that needs more time, we slow down. That is not a detour; that is the work.

Much of our work together is learning to hear what you already know about what is right for you. My part is to pay close attention. I would be honoured to hear your story.
