Emotional Regulation Counselling in New Westminster, BC

Counselling for emotional regulation can help you understand your inner world and equip you with tools to assist you in your day-to-day functioning. Nearly one in three adults say they regularly feel emotionally overwhelmed, and we see it often: the racing heart, the sleepless nights, and the thoughts that just won't settle. Or perhaps you have a hard time controlling your temper, and you are happy with the way you react sometimes. You're not alone in this, and you're not broken, for these patterns show up for a reason, and that reason usually goes back further than today's stress.

When Emotions Feel Overwhelming

Before a wave of emotion fully hits, your body tends to warn you: a racing heart, thoughts you can't switch off, a sleepless night, or that on-edge feeling of watching for danger. This is where emotional regulation counselling helps, settling your nervous system so that you can access your wiser mind and act with intention. Together, we'll build coping skills by:

  • Understanding your body’s cues

  • Preventing triggered states from escalating

  • Building healthier responses

Lifespan Integration for Emotional Regulation

Sometimes today's triggers feel connected to something older, often past experiences your body hasn't fully let go of. Lifespan Integration helps make sense of why. The old saying “if it’s hysterical, it’s historical” is oftentimes very true. Our registered clinical counsellors use this approach to support emotional regulation, working with your nervous system through past experiences rather than only your present symptoms. Across our sessions, you'll build the capacity to move out of survival-mode reactions towards calmer, more settled responses, available in person or online, wherever you feel most comfortable connecting.
